Ten km east of historic Québec City, Montmorency Falls billows out mist and rainbows.

The falls are located on the boundary between the borough of Beauport, and Boischatel, about 12 km (7.5 mi) from the heart of old Quebec City. The area surrounding the falls is protected within the Montmorency Falls Park (French: Parc de la Chute-Montmorency). The falls are at the mouth of the Montmorency River where it drops over the cliff shore into the Saint Lawrence River, opposite the western end of the Île d'Orleans. The waterfalls are 83 m (272') tall, a full 30 m (99') higher than Niagara Falls.

A quick getaway from the workload and evergoing kitchen renovations found us in beautiful, historic Québec City. A bonafide UNESCO World Heritage Site, Québec was founded by Samuel de Champlain, a French explorer and diplomat, on 3 July 1608, and at the site of a long abandoned St. Lawrence Iroquoian settlement called Stadacona. Champlain, also called "The Father of New France", served as its administrator for the rest of his life.

This area was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 as the "Historic District of Old Québec".
