A leopard hides in the brush beneath a large acacia tree. We only know that she is there because someone saw her descend from the tree earlier. Even though we are only feet away she is barely visible. The density of the brush makes it difficult to auto focus, and so I switch to manual. I imagine that a lone gazelle walking through this acacia forest could easily fall prey to this animal, completely unaware of its proximity. Although their striking, spotted coat would seem to make it stand out it actually helps disguise them in a number of environments. She is aware of our presence, but at least for now, we don't represent a threat. #ILoveWildlife #ILoveAfrica #WildlifePhotography in #Tanzania #BigFive #Cats #Leopards #BigCats

A mother leopard stares while her cub plays on the ground below. Her glance alone is enough to know that she means business. Although leopards are the smallest of the big cats of Africa, they are formidable opponents. They are also the best climbers of the big cat species. Their strength is demonstrated by their ability to carry a kill high up into a tree, protecting it from other animals that might try to steal it. Unlike lions and more like cheetahs, leopards lead a solitary life. Time together is limited to the first two years after birth. They are solitary souls of the Serengeti. #ILoveWildlife #ILoveAfrica #WildlifePhotography in #Tanzania #Leopards #BigFive #animals #BigCats

A female leopard looks at me with hungry eyes. There is a not so subtle warning in her gaze. Her cub plays on the ground below, and she knows that she must find food for both of them to survive. Leopards are one of the smaller "big cats", but even so, humans are no match for their razor like claws and large jaws. Despite her gaze I find her beautiful sitting in her tree and I can only ogle back in admiration. #ILoveWildlife #ILoveAfrica #ILoveTanzania #WildlifePhotography in #Tanzania #Wildlife #Cats #Leopards #TheLook #BigCats

A young male leopard looks out over the Serengeti territory he has inherited. His mother has recently left him to go off in search of her own new territory. His sister, who is still nearby, will soon leave to find a territory of her own. With rare exception, the life of a leopard is lonely and solitary. Males will associate with females during mating but do not partake in the care of the young. It is the way things have been done for eons. #ILoveNature #ILoveWildlife #ILoveAfrica #ILoveTanzania #Tanzania #Leopards #Canon #BigCats
