The old adage about the apple never falling far from the tree was probably never more true than it is with the cheetah. Due at some point in time to a genetic bottleneck, cheetahs have very little genetic variability. It is said that tissue from one animal can be transplanted to another without rejection. Now, I'm not sure why anyone would have done that but the concept is intriguing. Imagine if the same were true in humans. Lifesaving organ transplantation would be limited only by surgical considerations, perhaps only body size or age. Genetics aside, one thing is certain. This little one is as beautiful as its mother! #ILoveAfrica #ILoveTanzania #ILoveWildlife #Safari #Serengeti #Cheetahs #Canon

A group of gazelle begin moving dangerously close to the world's fasted terrestrial predator and she can't help but take notice. She had been relaxing in the tall grass, grooming herself, but the prospects of a potential meal take precedent. Her head raises up just high enough to see above the meadow's veil. The only movement is the occasional flutter of her eyelids. She watches intently as the slender grazers slowly close the distance between them. Well aware that they are still too far away for her to make a successful capture, she never assumes a striking position. When a sudden breeze changes direction the gazelles take notice. They can smell her in the air. Heads, ears, and tails raise, and they begin moving off in another direction. Our cheetah, at no loss for time or effort, realizes that the game is up for the moment, and returns to her morning grooming. She seems unflustered. She knows her time will come again, and with luck, the winds and meadows will reign in her favor. #iLoveNature #iLoveWildlife #WildlifePhotography in #Tanzania #Nature in #Africa #Cheetah #DrDADBooks #Canon #WildlifeConservation

A young cheetah cub rears up on hind legs to give mom a well deserved hug and kiss on the face. These intimate moments are the things that make safaris such a wonderful experience. One begins to see a common thread that carries through all life. You don't necessarily need to travel far to see it. You can observe nature right in your own back yard. To those who don't think that wild animals experience love and tenderness, you're just too full of yourself. Humans have a long history of egocentrism. Open your eyes and observe. The universe has much to teach. All we have to do is watch and listen. #ILoveNature #ILoveWildlife #ILoveAfrica #WildlifePhotography #Cheetah #Canon

I can't say why but I know that as far back as I can recall the Cheetah has been my favorite cat. When I try to figure it out it doesn't really make sense. Their heads are too small, their legs are too long. Their eyes are way too big! Their chests seem much too deep for the rest of their body and their waists are way too thin. Put them all together and they have unparalleled beauty. I can't say why but they are my favorite cat. #BigCats #Bringit #Canon

I will admit that I am still a relative novice when it comes to Africa but Samburu National Reserve took me over. It is rare that I can so easily say that I have found a place that has left me so unequivocally spellbound. It’s a feeling I easily recall the first time I arrived in Grand Teton National Park some years ago. It isn’t just the wildlife that make the refuge special. The lush landscape, rolling hills and mountains, and the rusty red soil all help to create a deliciously flavorful palette. This cheetah and her cubs used a termite mound as a sentry point to look out over the landscape. It is a vista that left me in awe, and I have the sense that I will someday need to return for at least a second helping. #Cheetahs
