finally our nearest galaxy neighbour 2.5 million light years away, the last object of 6 nights in a row with clear skies, no wind, no moon - and no problems :) there is another one waiting, but it is pretty faint so i need to add more data to the current 6h i got so far :) stay tuned :)

sometimes you have to try something new :)
as my current telescopes cover sky areas to small for such a relatively large object, i deceided to go for my first mosaik. thx to the post-editing software doing the alignment, i personally think it turned out pretty good :) given the many clear sky nights we had at the end of 2024, i would now rather do three panels to also cover the faint branches on both ends.

another winter classic and back in 2019 my first deep sky object i captured. it was a spontanious decision to shot it as other parts of the sky were covered with thin layers of clouds, but i have no regrets :) it shows the great orion nebula, the de mairans nebula and the running man nebula.

a relatively unknown deep sky object, very faint (at least to me and my past experience) but very beautiful in my opinion.
third night in a row with clear skies, no wind, and no moon but cold temperatures and not perfect seeing. this is what i call a christmas present :)

orion is a pretty awesome constellation in winter months, endless targets and objects just waiting to be captured.
with Vienna being exactly south of my backyard, M78 is just high enough in the night sky, though i only get a max of three hours due to my own house getting in the way of low regions :( maybe i will add some more data to it this winter :)
