At first glance in this early morning scene near Alma, Wisconsin a grassy area of the Buffalo River almost resembles a reflection of the distant hillside. – Directly behind me these waters will flow into and become one with the Mississippi River. – July 2022 ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©

On June 13th, 1987 at Butler, Wisconsin two examples of Chicago & North Western General Motors products in their matching company paint scheme are parked side by side at the diesel ramp.

Electro Motive Division SD60 #8040 was built in September of 1986 and CNW Wisconsin Division Mechanical Department GMC pickup #21-4724 looks like it might also be a 1986 model. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©

What looks like the ground mist that will often accompany an early morning Wisconsin Sunrise is actually lingering smoke from some large grassfires that had burned along the Union Pacific mainline the day before just west of Butler here at Marcy. – Since many UP trains no longer work at Butler yard anymore, the manifest rounding the curve in the distance had received their track warrant to head out on the Adams sub while they were still moving through Wauwatosa quite a few miles back. – So after hearing the scanner transmission for the TW I had plenty of time to make my way over to this location and wait while enjoying the developing scene surrounded by the fading residual aroma of burnt swamp grasses. – April 4th, 2021 ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
