With one of the Southern Pacific’s very few GE B36-7 locomotives leading, the SP 7754 west is on the Tucumcari line approaching El Paso, Texas back in the days when a real caboose could still be found still bringing up the rear of a freight train. -- March 5th, 1988 ~~ Jeff Hampton Photographs ©

Westbound Southern Pacific Tuscon to Phoenix symbol TUPXF with a Rio Grande GP40 leading is taking the siding at Wymola, Arizona where the crew will have time to stretch their legs while waiting for a meet with an eastbound. - Wymola is about 30 miles northwest of Tucson on the SPs Sunset Route. - Once they are back underway this train will cut away from the main line just ahead at Picacho and head north to Phoenix. -- March 3rd, 1994 ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©

The date is September 8th, 1995 and this pair of SP GE AC4400CW locomotives is on an eastbound loaded Wisconsin Central Ltd. iron ore train which is approaching the village of Slinger, Wisconsin.

This Southern Pacific pair was only about two months old when this photo was taken, and during this period it was common for newly delivered SP power to be sent to the WC for use on these ore trains.

Of course all SP power is now part of the Union Pacific motive power roster, and as of this posting leader #335 is actually just one of a very small handful of these ex-SP units that has not been patched and renumbered yet. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
