Lake States Transportation train #11 is on Soo Line rails and climbing the hill past the old lumber yard sheds at Brookfield, Wisconsin on September 24th, 1987 – While it is true that the Lake States division was widely known for their roster of aging EMD power – it was also fairly common to find bigger Soo Line units on LST trains, especially in the final days. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©

It’s the hazy afternoon of April 20th, 1987 and a solid set of three GP20s is the power for westbound Soo Line Lake States Transportation division train #11 passing the depot at Brookfield, Wisconsin. - These units were not actual EMD built GP20s, but rather Milwaukee Road home rebuilds of GP9s into what they considered their own version of the GP20 model. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©

If you take a motive power consist like the one in this photograph and add it together with the summer of 1987 it would just have to equal a train of the Lake States Transportation Division of the Soo Line. - This is LST train 411 departing Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 2nd, 1987 with a classic set of two GP30s and two GP9s in charge. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
