Visiting the Isle of Bute by ferry PA18 6AA


Rothesay the chief town of the Isle of Bute is a great place to take a ferry over to through the Firth of Clyde from Wemyss Bay near Skelmorlie on the Scottish mainland. The town has a great reputation for tending to the outdoor Esplanade Gardens which surrounds the palacial Winter Gardens building as seen here.

SOME HISTORY
The Winter Gardens began life as an open-air band stand until 1924 Walter McFarlane's Foundry produced the wonderful circular hall in cast iron which would enclose the seating area and designed in the Art Nouveau style with the original capacity being around 1,000

Sailing East

The specially adapted passenger barge for the Elderly & Disabled is owned by the charitable organisation The Seagull Trust and plies her trade on the Forth & Clyde Canal and based in Kirkintilloch. She is seen her making her way west on the canal towards Kirkintilloch.
