You'll often hear photographers talk about ''planning'' and ''timing''. And while those are important, it's also important to be spontaneous.
On this day, we headed to the South West coast of Vancouver Island in the hopes of capturing a lovely sunset and maybe a lovely moonset.
My planning consisted of a cursory glance at the weather forecast and a more serious time investment given to the making of sandwiches.
In truth, I had low expectations of capturing anything particularly special.
The second we hit the beach, I knew we were in for a treat.
The ocean spray lent a magical glow to the light from the setting sun and the water level in the creek was sheer perfection.
For me, the timing of the couple who walk under the waterfall in the distance adds a nice human element with an interesting forced perspective.
After a wonderful evening, we stuck around until 1am. But that's another story.

One of my last storm-watching shots from Vancouver Island.
Now that I'm living on the East Coast of Canada, I'm hoping we get some amazing waves during those legendary Nor'easters.
Watch this space.
