As an outdoor photographer there's a lot of 'hurry up and wait' in my life and I'm often waiting around for the light to give me something special so that I can capture the ultimate shot.
I've found that shooting timelapse during such periods is a really productive use of my time.
What can often appear boring and uninteresting from a 'stills' point of view can actually be quite dramatic when shot as a timelapse and then set to music.
I created this short film purely for fun and couldn't resist pairing it with one of my favourite pieces of music 'Trouble in Paradise' by Unkle and The Heritage Orchestra.
I actually shot this in 6K and then edited it down to 4K. It looks absolutely stunning on my 4K TV. I'll post the 4K version on Youtube so do a search for 'Shadows of Utah' in a day or so and you'll get to view it in 4K resolution.
If you have any questions as to how this short film was made, please post a comment.
Enjoy and please share.

Sometimes it's nice to take off the super wide angle and wear something with a little more reach.

I really have to thank my fellow countryman Thomas Heaton for inviting me out to shoot in the La Sal foothills.
In all my years of shooting in Moab I'd never ventured into the foothills.
I had no idea that such a gem was waiting for us just a short drive from town.
We'd just completed 4 days of instructing at a photography conference and this was our one and only day of shooting before leaving town.
A whole gang of photography instructors headed for the mountain and we had such a blast. I learned a few tips from Thom on how to make my vlogs better and there were many laughs.
I kind of camped in one spot for this shot because the light was constantly changing and I wanted the perfect exposure.
It was actually really difficult to pick one but I settled for this one in the end. I'm a sucker for grey clouds behind glowing trees.

Legend has it that Goblin Valley is actually the remains of a goblin army that was turned to stone by a powerful wizard during the dark ages.
Over the millennia, the wind has eroded the limbs, facial features and weaponry of the Goblin army, leaving us with these mysteriously misshapen figures.
My guess is that these two must have been deep in discussion just at the very moment the wizard cast his spell, forever freezing them in timeless debate.
Perhaps they can still feel every footfall and hear every word uttered in their enduring presence.
Watch what you say around the everlasting Goblins in this valley, you never know who might be listening.
Shot with the Sony A7RII and Canon 16-35mm lens.

Even though it's one of the most over photographed locations on planet earth Antelope Canyon will almost always yield fascinating results.
The abstract shapes, curves and play of light never fail to amaze.
