Sometimes it pays to return to a location and look at it with fresh eyes.

For this image, I really wanted to capture a lovely spring image so I timed it during the peak of the green foliage.
I was concerned that there might not be enough water but to my delight, the water volume was sheer perfection.

Today's vlog introduces a new character. youtu.be/hmv3pkhr5r0
In a desperate attempt to save my career I seek legal advice. My lawyer tells me I owe you an apology. I see things differently but he gets his way in the end.
His law degree looks badly Photoshopped to me.
To escape the heatwave, we head to the dark canyons in the misty mountains but there's no room in the boat for me as Amanda, Wayne, and Adam Gibbs paddle off and leave me to brave the frigid river.
Tragically, I manage to drown my Osmo for the third time but still manage to produce my best image of 2021 in this magical slot canyon on Vancouver Island.
As if that wasn't enough of a landscape photography adventure, we take you deep into the old-growth rainforest to visit Canadas largest tree the 'Cheewat Giant'. It's almost as massive as Grumptons head.
What is a 'magic muffin' and who wins a free copy of my book? How high can my voice go while wading into icy waters?

Layer upon layer for as far the eye can see.
Telephoto photography has opened up so many compositional opportunities that I can't believe I went without it for so many years.
I may not often reap the rewards of lugging about that dead weight, but on those odd occasions when the big guns are required.
If you'd like to see more of my work, please take a look at my book www.fototripper.com/chasing-awe-landscape-photography-boo...

After months of work, waiting and a whole load of drama, I'm overjoyed to announce that my landscape photography book 'Chasing Awe With Gavin Hardcastle' should finally start to ship on March 31st.
To all of those who pre-ordered the book, I want to say thank you for your infinite patience. I promise that your book will be worth the wait.
I can't say if I'll ever publish another book like this. It's been an all consuming project to say the least. Maybe when I've forgotten what a monumental task it's been ;)
With almost half of the books sold to pre-orders I expect that rest of the books will go fast so grab a copy while you can. They're on sale for a few more days at www.fototripper.com/chasing-awe-landscape-photography-boo...

One of my favourite shoots of all time was the day F4 visited Cape Disappointment during a king tide storm.
The waves were gigantic and when the sun opened up for a brief visit, they really came to life.
As busy as it was, it reminded me of a New Year's Day fireworks display that I'd once witnessed in Australia. Cries of ''Ooohh'' and ''Aaaaah''could be heard pretty much constantly.
I may have even indulged in a few very un-English ''whooops'' myself.
With this shot I'd found my rhythm. After about two hours of shooting waves, I'd become quite good at predicting the behemoths.
I saw this titan rolling in and tracked it with my 100-400mm telephoto lens using auto-focus.
With my camera set to shoot high speed continuous burst, I was able to capture that moment of ultimate grandeur just as the wave reached it's peak before collapsing.
It was one of those mornings when you know you've witnessed something special.
I count myself very lucky to have seen this and even luckier to have documented such an adventure.
