A couple years ago I headed to Yosemite shortly after a significant snowfall. I walked along the Mist Trail to catch a view of Vernal Falls. The trail had been buried and disappeared under snow. The top of the falls weren't that far away, and I had snowshoes and crampons, so I decided to just hike uphill to the top. The route went through the trees on the right of this photo and was a horrible slog. The snow was so soft and deep that I sank in deeply, even with the extensions on my snow shoes.

To my surprise, no one had yet broken trail at the top of Vernal Falls. I had to break trail though soft, deep snow for several more miles. This was made more concerning when my phone, which had been fully charged at the start of the hike, died in the cold. My bottle of water froze, leaving me rather thirsty. I finally reached packed snow on the JMT most of the way back to the Valley. The loop up the Mist Trail and down the JMT ended up being quite a bit tougher than I had anticipated. But I did get some photos of fresh snow.
