It's actually Angel Olsen's birthday tomorrow so I am a little early (better than late). I took a trip down memory lane yesterday to a vacation I'd taken to NYC in 2012 in the spring. One of the things I did was to see Angel Olsen at Grasslands, a fairly small club with an unusual backdrop that provided a great deal of cinematic negative space.
In times like these, I find myself contemplating the purpose of art in this world. It keeps me a little sane but it seems meaningless when placed against the tyrants of politics who have all the power and also the evil.
Yet, there really is this everlasting part of me that needs to create things in order to stay sane and I've always yearned with concert photography to be able to capture shots that no one else saw or could somehow. I really loved the momentum of the negative space and colors behind Angel and I felt like she was not just a performer here but a human being trying to make sense of a world of entropy, which I find all too relatable at this time.
