Built as SOU 1727 by ACF in 1950 as a Baggage/RPO for the Southern Railway, NS No. 960408 is now a dining car accompanied with the bunk cars for a system tie gang.
Following it's years in passenger service, it was used as a supply car for a wreck train in Monroe, VA in derrick service. After being retired from that, it spent some years at Roanoke, VA until 2014 when it was rebuilt into a dining car.
An ongoing tie replacement project on the NS Kansas City District is why this is tied up here at Orrick, MO. 10/10/20.

Both the KCS and BNSF Hazmat Safety Training Equipment cars are found together on an industry spur along the former KCS Armourdale Lead in Kansas City, KS. These had been interchanged to the KCTL within the past month, and were spotted here so they could perform a little work on them.
These cars are used for First Responder hazmat training courses involving railroad equipment. This is most likely the first time hazmat training equipment from both of these railroads have ever been photographed together, and I definitely never expected I'd ever see them together near the KCT Mill St. Yard. 3/23/24.
