Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Turbine Steamer MONAS ISLE laid up awaiting the scrap man at Morpeth Dock, Birkenehead in October 1980.

Built by Cammell Laird, Birkenhead in 1950. She had a service speed of 21.5 knots.

She was withdrawn at the end of the 1980 summer season. During 1980 she appeared as a cross channel ferry in the movie "Chariots of Fire" which was being filmed on Merseyside.

She departed Birkenhead bound for scrap in the Netherlands on October 30, 1980.

MONAS ISLE seen in the previous photograph seen at at different location in Birkenhead Docks shortly before departing for scrap in October 1980.

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company's first ro/ro ship the NF JAGUAR seen in Liverpool Canada #3 Branch Dock in June 1981.

She has quite a complex history of owners and operators.

At the time this photo was taken she was still owned by P&O. She was sold in December 1981 to James Fisher of Barrow who demise chartered her to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company who finally took ownership in 1992.

East Africa National Line MULUNGUSHI and the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company floating crane SAMSON seen in Vittoria Dock, East Float, Birkenhead around 1979/80. MULUNGUSHI was built at the Elsinore Ship Yard, New York in 1960. Floating crane SAMSON.

SAMSON was sold to new owners in 1987 but unfortunately was wrecked in a storm on the County Waterford coast in December 1987. Her remains lie there to this day.
