Lake Huron, near the tip of Michigan's thumb.

This is the waterfront landscape at the county park that contains the Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse. Not far from here is a far more dramatic shoreline feature, but it's only accessible by kayak. We didn't do that.

The restroom at Port Crescent was perhaps 300 yards from our campsite and down a fairly steep hill. But the walk is along this nice fence.

Michigan's Port Crescent State Park--Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron.

Notice the guy with the metal detector, hunting for dropped coins. Not sure if he was cold, or in disguise.

Port Crescent was a village before it was a State Park. It flourished from around the end of the Civil War until the 1880s as a sawmill town and lumber port, then lingered until the 1930s. By 1959, when it became a state park, all that remained were some building foundations, a very tall smokestack, and the bridge across the Pinnebog River.

The smokestack's greatly reduced, these days. While some folks refer to the place as a ghost town, that's a bit of a stretch; it's really just gone.
