A sculpture by northern Michigan sculptor William Allen at the Dennos Museum on the Northwestern Michigan College campus in Traverse City. The artist’s note beside the sculpture explains that the work was inspired by the discovery of a slave burial ground in Manhattan.

Last week Tuesday we headed up the Old Mission peninsula to visit the lighthouse. We mostly headed north on the east edge of the peninsula and returned on the western side. We drove by the old mission site and took a few pix at the lighthouse park.
Along the way we found this gorgeous church. That set us on a mission to photograph some churches and crosses for my sister, who uses photos of crosses to focus her annual series of Lenten meditations on Facebook, which she calls "Journey to the Cross."
