En route to Bifröst, a pinkish mountain looms over everything. Her name is Baula, and she's 934 meters (~3000 feet) tall. Bifröst is a university camp located ~100km north of Reykjavík, as well as being a "rainbow bridge" to the nordic gods, according to norse mythology. How's that for unnecessary info?

Went on a trip last night with Ottó, we weren't expecting auroras, as it was heavily overcast and the aurora forecasts predicted no joy, but the weather was extremely still so we figured we might get some nice still water reflection pictures. But wouldn't you know it, the sky opened and far-away auroras appeared to our much delight! This was a great opportunity to try out my new lens - a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 (better known as Samyang) - This little miracle lens costs only $389 brand-new and offers surprising image & build quality - far higher than I would ever have expected from such a cheap lens.

Extra: Yet another media coverage at the Daily Mail, where one commentor added this pretty nice poem:
In northern realms of snow and ice,
Under starry skies of cold winter nights,
From fjord shore, or mountain-rampart height,
The Aurora Borealis glows its celestial light.
From deep luminous hues of Creation's palette,
By dynamic forces and through dimensional spaces brushed-out,
Star adorned emerald streamers and ruby-radiant curtains of polar facet,
In time's changing patterns of arctic places, give "awe-inspired" visions, no doubt.

Not doing much with my photography these days, mostly just bringing the camera along with a random lens every time I go out with my little daughter for a walk. This time it was the king of the hill, the Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100, the one that literally never lets you down, no matter what. This photo is 100% (except for cropping & resizing) SOOC, straight out of camera.
Anyone know what this flower is called?

Another one from last friday night. You would think you couldn't take a bad photo of the northern lights, you would think wrong. I have tons of horrible pictures of northern lights, I even have two of them with shooting stars clearly visible! Anyway, some tips for shooting the northern lights if you have them in your area:
1) Warm clothes, I mean it!
2) Tripod.
3) Brightest & widest lens you have.
4) Never go beyond 30seconds to avoid: a) startrail b) blurry smudgy northern lights. The shorter exposure time the better.
5) Highest ISO you and your camera can live with.
