My first (and hopefully not last) review!

www.islenskljosmyndun.is/index.php?topic=1740

Unfortunately it's in Icelandic, so I hope my Icelandic followers will find the time to check it out. I decided to let go of charts and boring technical details and made this a personal "in the field" review instead. I think they are much more fun & informative to read.

I've been struggling to master my recently acquired Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L lens. Never seem to get close enough to my subjects, so you'll have to settle with this abstract attempt at a wildlife photo :-)

PS. How do you like the new Flickr layout? I love that photos are displayed bigger, but I feel somehow context and navigation has gone down the toilet and it's harder to get a feeling for who shot what, it's all just a huge pile of photos and I don't know what's what. :(

I went with a few friends for some photo-fishing last night, and as the four of us stood there shooting the boat simultaneously, I was worried that we would probably all wind up with the same photo. But fortunately that is rarely the case, as you can see from my friends photos:

The fourth member of our posse hadn't posted his at the time of this writing.

The TS-E 17mm came in handy, as it enabled me taking a low-angle shot without sacrificing sky volume for water, by shifting the lens a little bit upwards. Of course I could have tilted the lens upwards for that same purpose, but then I'd be distorting the photo, and who wants to do that when they've got a tilt-shift lens? :-D

And now for something entirely different. I wonder how many hits this photo will get, compared to the crowd-pleasing aurora shot that I uploaded before this one. Granted, not nearly as exciting - but I like this photo quite a bit myself, even more so than the crowd-pleasing aurora. 50 years from now (assuming I'll be still kicking it) I will probably hold this one in much higher esteem, but as they say, to each is own. This was taken in a recent photo trip to the south-east corner of Iceland. I had a new camera & lens on that trip, the Canon EOS 7D and the unbelievable prime-butt kicking Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II lens, which has effectively restored my faith in autofocus zoom lenses again. I'll be probably selling of the 7D (got it in a bargain trade) but the 70-200 won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

The weather is changing. Our seasons have shifted by 2-4 weeks. Summer started very late. It's almost November now and we're still in the middle of fall, so it seems at least. This photo was actually taken a month ago, but I could go there again today for the exact same scene. Anyway, I was finally giving myself the time to go through pictures of our daughter, to update our on-line family album (which hasn't been updated since March! ouch!) and I scrolled through lots and lots of photos I never gave a second look the first time, including this one. Some of my most favourite photos of all time, are photos I dismissed the first time I saw them.
