Just you wait, people. It will happen. In every house in every village in the land, young children will grow up wishing to be not a guitarist or a bassist. Nay, not a keyboardist or lead singer but a drummer. There won't be any doctors or teachers either. There will just be drumming all day and all night. Not one person will get a full night's rest nor miss it. We'll speak with cymbal crashes. We'll answer questions with kicks. No need for clocks..the drums will keep rhythm....when drummers take over the world...

This is Amos Memon of Fanfarlo. He sings, he drums and because he sits so far back on the stage, it's rather difficult to get a photo of him. I didn't manage it when they played Schubas (as it was also just too dark at the back of the stage) and I felt bad about it so on Wed. at Lincoln Hall, I made an effort.

When drummers take over the world, things are going to be very different indeed.

Fanfarlo is a GREAT band out of London. Listen: www.myspace.com/fanfarlo

Ok..last one for awhile. I like to save some for later anyhow. I took a handful of lead singer Simon Balthazar but I liked this one best. I think he liked the more serious ones better though..but this he looks a touch boyish and very charming, pretty much irresistible as the whole band is.

I waited around for the adoring fans to pretty much clear out then I told Simon that I had gone up to people the previous night at the Mt. Eerie show and campaigned for them to go to Fanfarlo, which is the truth. I literally became a one woman street team for Fanfarlo. I have never actually done this before for any band but I really wanted their night to sell out. I wanted them to feel loved by Chicago because I love them and I couldn't bare to see such a glorious band play an empty room.

What was I saying? Oh yeah...so I told Simon all of this which meant I probably came off like a ridiculous fan girl who watches too much t.v. and doesn't read enough Kurt Vonnegut but that's not really true...that's not me.

Anyhow, Simon was nice. My friend Nick had asked me at a Halloween party about portraits...and concert photography. I love taking photographs at live shows even though it's alot of work for almost always no pay. It's just how I experience music. On the flipside, I go through drastic and bleak periods of my life where I feel like concert photography can be soulless when everyone is just vying for the same exact shot and the same moment. So, I guess that explains why I like taking portraits of bands better than live shots. It's because that precise moment didn't happen for 15 or 20 other people and so I can hold it close and cherish it a little more.

I know I have said this before but I'll say it again...Fanfarlo are really great so if you think all this incessant rambling is just for any old band, think again and have a listen: www.myspace.com/fanfarlo

I was really excited about this show (This band is truly amazing!) and I had actually gotten a nice message from Amos beforehand. In case you didn't know, he's the very talented drummer behind all of the other Fanfarlos on stage so it's very difficult to get a live shot of him. In any case, right away, he claimed to know who I was just from the internet I guess which I wasn't expecting at all.

I probably had the best conversation with Amos about Mighty Boosh and London and music. He seems a little serious here but I think it's just that he's a very intense and hard working kind of person. He has a really fantastic laugh just the same.

It's kind of funny how many people were there trying to get autographs from all the band members. I told Amos I'm not really an autograph type of person and I'm not and have never understood it. I'm a photograph kind of person. When I take a picture, the memory literally lasts longer in my mind.

I don't know if you'll ever see this Amos but if you do..I'm so happy I took a photograph of you even if it wasn't on stage. You are an incredibly vivid person who I'll always remember meeting.

And for you others, check out this band's music if you haven't already!!! www.myspace.com/fanfarlo
