It's kind of funny when you shoot music festivals after awhile because you start to really feel like everyone around you is probably getting the same shot. And so, I'm always quite reluctant to post any shots like that because I figure you can always see those on major publications.

I wasn't assigned Crystal Castles and I was shooting Band of Horses at the same time across the park (approximately a mile away of running.) Crystal Castles usually doesn't allow photographers but this time allowed photographers to shoot from the stage. I felt crushed when I heard that but I decided to go there anyhow well after the first three songs in order to get some of Alice Glass from the crowd.

A part of me hates this photo just as much as I love it. But, what ended up happening is that I actually ended up shooting this shot through a man's outstretched red and pink shirt as he was holding up his cell phone for his own photo. The other shots I have of Alice where the color is normal aren't nearly as weird and fun to me.

I invite you to absolutely hate this shot but I implore you to also think of it as one might think of a shot taken on expired film. It's unpredictable, very much so like this band, and so to have something quite strange is also quite wondrous.

She's not really falling. It's just an odd framing. But seriously, just the other day, I fell. It was in the snowy ice and I muddied up my jeans and I had bruises and I worried about the camera I was holding. Still, it was so beautiful to fall and just for that moment not think about anything else.

I didn't plan on falling but I like to try to do something that makes me feel a little more alive every day. Otherwise, I won't really appreciate it at all.

You know what I mean?

It's funny..that fall was actually a couple of weeks ago, in January..but I relive that moment a little bit every day. I hope the falling never goes away. I hope I fall a little bit each time I get back up again..just to fall again. Just to be alive.
