Dear Bjork,

I grew up in a very musical family and knew how to work the turn table in my childhood home as soon as I could stand and form coherent thoughts. My parents had/have an extensive vinyl collection that included Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Petty, The Moody Blues, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and Queen's greatest hits as well as their Flash Gordon album (Flash is the savior of the universe!)

For a huge part of my life, this was enough and this music was creative and calming and wondrous.

But then, I went through a rebellious stage and you were my first rebellion. It was difficult, I think, for my mom in particular to handle the higher octaves of your vocal range on songs like "It's Oh So Quiet" and Bjork, I fell hard for you over 20 years ago. I got into all of your Sugarcubes songs too and even sought out and treasured your album Gling-Gló. Your sound to me was both feminine and indulgent at the same time very challenging and creative. You didn't seem afraid of anything or anyone when I heard you sing. You seemed brave and empowered.

Bjork, I'm so sorry I took your photogaph but when I heard you weren't allowing photographers into the photopit I was so sad I cried about it as a grown woman. Then, I saw all the signs you put up about not taking photos and well, Bjork, please forgive me. I am worried that you will hate me. But, I adore you and as a photogapher that needs a sense of peace before death whenever I photograph someone I love for so long that helped me define my identify, I felt compelled to take your photograph and to share your whole beauty with others around the world.

Asking me to not take photographs would probably be like someone asking you not to sing. It's a little impossible, you see. For I am me and I have become an artist, filled with ideas that overwhelm me unless I can see them come to fruition, partly because of you and the way you inspired me.

Such a legend in my life and an inspiration for a nontraditional female in music from the time I was a teenager...mom hated the screeches blasting out of the speaker but she's forgiven me now because she gets in. <3 mom and Bjork!
