Excerpt taken from the Hari Kunzru novel White Tears, which is one of the most interesting reads and is about what happens when white people appropriate music and aspects of cultural significance that are not theirs for the taking. It's a very apt modern thriller with its analysis of white privilege, classism and racism.

Incidentally, though I am probably in the minority, I liked White Tears better than Gods Without Men but I think both are worth reading. White Tears involves music, though, and so I connected more with it.
