I just finished reading my 201st book of the year so I've been looking back on some of the ones I've read these last 12 months. Upgrade Soul, by Ezra Claytan Daniels, was one of the most interesting graphic novels I've ever read. Though I tend to read only about 10 or so graphic novels a year, I found this one to be well worth reading. Here's a link:

You don't have to put up a big fight
All over your body
Burgeoning until the deep wound of night.
Roxanne!
You don't have to sew those holes up tight.
Letting harsh light pierce you.
You can have vision without your sight.
Roxanne!
You don’t have to burn for your heart’s delight
I know your mind is made up
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

(When Leaves are Afraid of the Tinder)
We may not be from the same tree.
But at least we're from the same forest.
My mother watched your mother grow up next to her.
And when their children fell, they played together.
Hey, maybe we are different shapes and colors.
But we all share this big vast world of nature.
We could go on a date.
Crinkle with the best of them.
Maybe, just see what happens?
We both fell at the same time...
Doesn’t that mean something?
Maybe, we can help pick each other back up again.

Godzilla leaf will fight you.
Don’t think this being is a dried out mess of a thing
a desiccated barely upright leaf.
Because, we make up stories as we go along.
First a book and then a song.
Or a leaf who goes wrong.
We can’t seem to walk right, sleep tight, dance at night.
We have been found out
hiding but emitting a whimper then a shout
still shifting around all corners
We are surely goners.
A sorry decrepit sight.
Listen, do you think Godzilla cares about all this?
Do you think a leaf who cannot wait for the sunrise
because it will cause one to wither
cares about what makes you slither?
No. Just know that
Godzilla will be gone and you’ll still be hither
To invent new enemies and playthings
