After missing for almost 10 years from BDZ's timetable, on 1 October 2024 the early morning fast service from Ruse to Sofia was reintroduced.

Here we see the train in Thompson in the Iskar gorge conveniently running left-hand due to maintenance activities on the other track. Locomotive 44 120 recently overhauled in ZOS Vrutky, Slovakia is hauling the rake of ex-DB cars.

A familiar freight service under disguise. The cement shuttle from Devnya to Damyanitsa carrying bulk and paletised cement but here served by BZK instead of BDZ Cargo with locomotive 40 0797 up front, GFR H-cars and U-wagons owned by Express Service.

The rake is slowly approaching the junction at Batanovtsi where the freight line from Razmenna joins the main line Sofia - Kulata.

The last year has seen an increase in cement freight trains in Bulgaria mainly driven by imports from Turkey and the cement factories at Beli Izvor and Devnya.

Some new services have been introduced as is the case with the train on the photo carrying cement from Beli Izvor to Peturch. Locomotive 45 186 of BDZ cargo is up front with 43 548 helping at the back end of the 20-car rake.
