An incredible sunrise over Lake Mattamuskeet offered ideal shooting conditions that seemed to yield one great shot after another. 150 second exposure was achieved by using a Lee Big Stopper 10-stop ND filter.

Lake Mattamuskeet, NC - Given how incredible the sunrise was on this particular morning, I never really considered this image for black and white processing. I frankly did not think that b&w would do justice to my memory of that day - one of the most amazing sunrises I have ever witnessed. I have to admit that I think that I was wrong. While the black and white processing loses the vibrant purple, red and orange hues, it gains a very interesting dreamlike quality in my opinion. The processing also seems to emphasize very different spectrum's of light and different areas of the image than the color image. Let me know if you like it as well.
