The Edridge Road Community Health Centre in Croydon.
This image is for Richard RichardK2020 a Flickr friend who along with myself is a bit of a fanboy for Olympus gear. Quite some time ago he mentioned to me just how highly he rated the 45mm f1.2 Pro lens. I already had the 25mm Pro lens and I knew how good that was but to buy the 45mm, well, lets just say they do not come cheap. Well by hook and by crook I managed to acquire one about a month back. And Richard, you were right all along, it is superb. So this is the first image I've posted with the 45. There will be more, that I'm sure of.

I entered this image into a camera club competition last week and I was amused to hear the judge question whether the fence hoarding at the bottom of the picture, for that is what it is, had been photoshopped into the image. I did think to myself "If I had photoshopped the thing into the picture would I have put the bloody thing in at an angle!" (actually there was more swearing in there but this is a family show). Well, clearly the judge was not a lover of architectural photography but that shouldn't have surprised me as not many of them are. Her summarised verdict on it was that after the initial impact of it it just wasn't very interesting. It finished near the bottom of the entries and I went away thinking I need to go out and photograph a lovely sharp picture of a bird for next time... C'est la vie. 😠

I'm going to be leaving this message on my next few posted images. This is to let the photographers that I follow know that due to the immense amount of time it takes me to go through all the photos that appear in my Flickr stream each day I am setting my stream to show only one image per day per person. It's either that or get Flickr burn-out. Apologies in advance if your photos don't get as much of my attention as they used to. Hopefully people will understand my reasons for doing so. Thanks.

This building sits on the North End Road, the main shopping street in Croydon. It's a two story building and on the ground floor is a Vodafone shop. I'm sure no one ever looks above the Vodafone sign but if they did they would see this wonderful old ornate building.

I do love a little bit of sliding when it comes to editing my images. Architecture especially can be made to pop with colour and clarity so here's an over-the-top Sunday slider of the famous Saffron Square tower in Croydon. Well, famous in Croydon at least. And yes, it really is that colour. I hear the architects were drugs tested shortly after this building was completed... (that's a joke by the way!) 😁
Anyone familiar with Croydon will most likely be scratching their heads at the pov used for this. In fact the lower brick structure is the multi-storey Ruskin Square car park and sits a half km away from the tower building you see behind it, which while appearing quite squat in the photo is actually 43 stories in height. So what you are seeing here is only the top 10 floors or so. The car park structure meanwhile is about 175 metres from where I was standing. So the entire image is very compressed, the result of shooting it with a 200mm lens which obviously has that effect.

The NLA Tower was completed in 1970, making this Croydon landmark 50 years old and to be frank, it looks it. Having said that I love this grungy concrete facade with its heavy shadows and angular corners. This building is in fact circular so the corner detail you see here extends 360 degrees. The 24-storey tower has been referred to by locals as the 50p building because of its unique shape which mirrors the shape of the 50 pence coin in the UK.
