A week ago I attended what they call a point-to-point race meeting. It is a low key, all amateur event that was held only 20 minutes from where I live. We found a place to set up that was very close to the final fence of the race course. I set my shutter speed to 1/1000 sec and fired away as the horses came over the fence. It was amazing just how quickly they were over the jump and gone again, literally a blink of an eye and they were gone. The other thing that was noticeable was the noise of the horses as they came through, the pounding of the hooves was quite wonderful to take in. Something very different for me but an experience that I thoroughly enjoyed.

After the rain and a day before this poppy had lost all those beautiful petals. All things must pass.

Spring is just about in the air here in the UK with the crocuses and snow drops showing themselves once again. This image is from late last spring on a day I was messing around with an old fixed aperture projector lens that was adapted to fit on my Sony A7ii. I think this was the first time I'd used it with an extension tube for flower photography and it proved to be quite good at it.
This was another shot that I entered into the "Creative" competition last week at my camera club. In fact the middle of the flower head hasn't been touched but the surrounding area has had a topaz filter lightly applied to it to give it a more painterly look.

I recently went into London to try and shoot some long exposures. On my way into London on the train I put an ND filter on my camera and took a couple of "practice" shots out the window. Parallel to the train were another set of tracks which is what you see here. The shutter speed was 5 seconds. Needless to say the actual LE shots I took in London that day were absolute rubbish (note to self: must get better quality ND filters!). My train track LEs were probably the best thing I took that day. (Oh yes, there are more!)
My apologies to all for being AWOL on Flickr for the past couple of days. To make matters worse I'm away for the weekend as my good wife and I are going down to the south coast for a couple of nights so I'm going to continue to be mostly off Flickr until Monday. I will try to catch up with some of your photos when time permits.

A little bit of bokeh fun for the Macro Mondays group theme of "backlit". These tiny "forget-me-not" flowers were shot with my lens looking straight into the sun late yesterday afternoon, the green leaves providing a bit of a curtain to diffuse the strong back light slightly. I did have to shoot this with my exposure compensation set to -3 stops and hope I could make sense of it in post somehow.
