Coral spot!
The fungus only grows on dead wood. But can spread and do damage to healthy trees.

Big Canoe Trip July 1-3, 2021 to Celebrate a First Birthday

Our trail started at a small parking area off Trotters Lane in the Equestrian neighborhood. Our goal was to hike the John Williams Trail, one of the most scenic in Big Canoe, to visit several small waterfalls along the boulder-filled Blackwell Creek. We began the hike as the trail dropped in elevation along wooden stairs to the creek valley. The trail follows Blackwell Creek upstream, under the canopy of a mixed coniferous and hardwood forest, reaching a swinging span bridge that connects to the Covered Bridge Trail and passes the historic stone remains of a large bridge that once spanned the creek. Built in 1915, the stone columns held a bridge that led to a large house in Wolfscratch Village; all that remains of the house today are the towering chimneys. Wooden benches on the trail offer the perfect spot for a mid-hike rest to enjoy the sounds of the rushing creek and the cool, shady forest.

The Blackwell Creek Trail ended at the covered bridge on Wilderness Parkway. We walked about 1.5 miles.
