So these cicadas left behind their shells on the mountain top underneath the leaves. Looks like there were a lot of them on the mountain top. About 30 miles away in the Tennessee Valley, we had some but not too many in our yard, field, and creek -- don't know why so few for us!!! Scientifically, after 2024, Brood XIII and Brood XIX cicadas won’t sync up their emergences again for another 221 years. The two broods last emerged together in 1803, when Thomas Jefferson was president.
