What participating in Inktober 2024 has meant to me:
1. Faces and heads – challenging from start to finish!
2. Hands and legs – so many ways to draw them, but I’m not always sure they’re in the right place.
3. Shading – makes a huge difference, even if it is tricky to get just right.
4. Drawing a straight line – easier said than done! During Inktober, I discovered that I enjoyed drawing mountains!
5. Researching a few of my own photos (e.g. fish, nomadic, Ocoee River) was a joy—felt like lifelong learning at its best.
6. Enjoyed experimenting with different papers, pens, and pencils.
7. Learned so much about using paintbrushes, effects, and digital techniques.
8. Problem-solving along the way was surprisingly rewarding.
9. Met some new Flickr friends and picked up a few great techniques.
10. Loved seeing how others interpreted each day’s challenge word.
11. Early on, I thought about quitting the month-long challenge because it was hard at times, but I’m glad I didn’t.
12. Sometimes, drawing felt like traveling to a new time or place—a real adventure!

In the spring of 2024, my husband and I took a fairytale trip to Asheville, NC, to visit the enchanting Biltmore Estate. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the charming old town of Asheville was brimming with beauty as the trees, shrubs, and flowers awoke to welcome spring. We absolutely loved our time in Asheville.
On our way back, we traveled through winding, mountainous roads where legends of the past seem to linger. The journey was breathtaking, with the thrill of sharp curves, sudden dips, and steep climbs. As we navigated the roller-coaster ride of US Highway 25 through North Carolina and into Tennessee, creeks rushed alongside us, adding to the adventure of the scenic drive.
It was truly a journey of discovery, tucked away in the heart of the mountains.
Fast forward six months to late September, when Hurricane Helene struck. Who would have thought a hurricane could wreak such havoc on North Carolina and Tennessee? Asheville and those beautiful mountainous roads we had just traveled were devastated. Lives were lost, and generations of family history washed away in the wake of flooding and landslides. I am heartbroken for this once peaceful corner of the world. Our prayers are with you.
