I saw this guy across the road looking very dapper and made a decision to ask for a portrait instead of going for a candid capture. I approached Eddy after he crossed the street and asked him if I could make a portrait for him, letting him know that I thought he looked very stylish. Eddy was happy to take part but looked a little uncomfortable being photographer on the busy street - I kept the encounter brief and didn't relocate for the shot.
I had just switched to my 50mm f/1.4 lens and decided to keep that for the portrait and got close in for a tight head and shoulders shot, I love the result. Captured with natural light only and colour calibrated with the Xrite Colorchecker Passport from a shot I made in the same light a few moments before.
I have sent my edited shots to Eddy and hope that he likes them. I am very grateful for the few moments he shared for the shoot and every shot in this project helps to build confidence and portraiture skills. Enjoy!

I was feeling full of confidence, well almost full, after breaking my 'stranger drought' and was loitering on the street corner enjoying the rhythmic samba/jazz tunes of a street band when I noticed Jasmine come along and start filming them on her mobile phone. I noticed that she, as I, could barely resist swinging hips in time to the beat and I took a cheeky candid shot of her. After she stopped filming I approached Jasmine and asked her if she would be happy for me to take a portrait of her, she was immediately happy to and I gestured her to one side (away from the noise) to explain the strangers project to her.
I then selected another spot to shoot and she happily agreed to relocate with me and we chatted a little while doing so. Jasmine told me she was in town to enjoy a little bit of shopping after a night out in Glasgow the previous day. She lives in Glasgow and was an absolute pleasure to work with, however briefly, and as you can see from the shot she was very relaxed in front of the lens.
I had intended to ask her about her Frida Kahlo earrings but got a little caught up with making sure I got some great shots and I completely forgot to mention it.
Taken on shutter priority with mounted flashgun at 100 ISO and a diffuser attached. I opted to use this shot, with Jasmine looking off camera and breaking into a gentle laugh, for my official shot as it represents the fun and relaxed nature that I felt flowed from her personality.
It was an absolute pleasure to meet you Jasmine and thank you for taking time to be a part of my 100 Strangers project. You have my contact card so simply email if you would like a copy of the shots, I would be most happy to send them to you.

I saw Petya standing next to some dark railings in her bright red leather jacket and bathed in the afternoon sunlight I dived in for a candid shot. After the candid she saw me and we both exchanged smiles, at that point I decided to step in and introduce myself and the 100 Strangers project.
Petya, who comes from Bulgaria but has lived in Glasgow for one and a half years now, was in town to enjoy, and make the most of, the Glasgow sunshine. She was happy to take part in the 100 Strangers project although she was a little nervous or embarrassed once I started shooting. This was more so when her male friend arrived and Petya told him 'this is what happens when I have to wait for you'. I wasn't at my best on the day either and struggling a little with my confidence, as a result of a pain and painkiller combination with my bad ankle, and therefore could have done more to help put Petya at ease in the shoot. Breaking out the reflector and asking her to hold it for me only made her appear more embarrassed and I offer my apologies for that.
I am an inherently shy person myself and although I will happily talk all day with anyone and everyone that speaks to me, making the initial contact is something I find difficult and is the main reason for me taking this challenge on. Unfortunately this was a bad day for my 'shyness' and I could have made a better job of the portraiture.
The shot was taken on shutter priority with hotshoe mounted flashgun, diffused, on ISO100 and a handheld reflector to soften any shadows from the flash. The flash was set to -1 compensation so as not to be overpowering and I positioned Petya to make the most of the sunlight giving catchlights and separation to her hair. I decided to process the shot in black and white to make the most of the composition and strong lighting without any colour distractions. Post processing included very minor spot removal, iris enhancement and some play with tone and contrast only.
Thank you Petya for taking part in my 100 Strangers project and putting up with me on a 'not so good' day. You have my contact details on the miniMOO card so please get in touch if you would like a copy of the shot.
