With the easing of Lockdown restrictions here in England we’ve finally been able to travel and take up the holiday that we originally had booked for Easter 2020, and which we had shunted down to 2021. Good to be out and about again.

This image was a simple handheld grab at the start of a walk around the lake. Many more images from our trip to follow.

Everyone no doubt remembers where they were on 9/11 2001, when the horrific events of the day unfolded live on TV.

Nearly a year ago we were fortunate enough to visit NYC and ground zero; a very moving experience.

A time to reflect and remember.

*** 12th Sept. image made Flickr Explore, wow, first time ever. No idea how they work out what goes on there, but very nice all the same. Many thanks to all those who viewed and liked ***

Welcome to my first image from our New York trip.

On our first morning we had an early start to catch a sunrise around the ‘Dumbo’ area, so we took the F Subway train from Lexington Ave-63 rd To York St. We made extensive use of the subway during our stay, as it is the easiest way to get around, taking full advantage of a 7 day Metro Card.

As with the rest of NYC, the subway is a place of stark contrasts; there are those areas that are relatively shiny and new(ish) and those that are a bit long in the tooth, with rats scurrying around on the tracks unperturbed by the waiting passengers above, who also don’t seem that bothered by the rats below!

It is also a refuge for those who don’t seem to have anywhere else to spend the night. We found people sleeping on both the platforms and the trains. On our ride down to York St we were in a carriage with a few such people. There are a couple of other images on my Instagram feed that expands on this.

Having had some rain the night before I hoped for a quick snap of a classic New York Cab reflecting in the puddle. But with all the different types of vehicles used as cabs in NYC, some of the iconic aspects of the Yellow Cab have been lost.

You can’t go to the Brooklyn side without visiting the Dumbo area, and yes another cliche shot.

The street, even at the early hour this shot was taken, was full of the ‘selfie brigade', so I had to shoot up higher.

The sun had just risen and was bathing the bridge in a beautiful golden light.
