On a recent photo walk with a photo buddy around York (the Ye Olde original and not the ‘New’ fangled version across the pond), we explored some of the Snickleways; alleyways to you and me. There are tons of these around the city, which can offer some interesting photo opportunities.

This particular one opens up onto Judges Court, which from 1720 until the early 1800’s served as lodgings for judges presiding over the Assize Courts in the city, and which is now a hotel.

Continuing the photo walk around York, we ended the evening at Clifford’s Tower, which dates from William The Conqueror.

I hadn’t taken a tripod for this particular outing, instead relying on my Platypod, which is a great device to have in your bag; it takes up so little space and weighs next to nothing.

Because of the Platypod, I had the camera virtually on the pavement, which gave me this very low POV.

For this one I had to borrow my mate’s tripod as I wanted a little more height than my Platypod offered.

York station is an extremely busy place and to get this shot, without people, meant waiting for ages for a suitable gap and then quickly firing off a shot or two.

I know that street photographers would probably prefer to have people in the shot, which I also captured. But I preferred this uncluttered view.

This side of the clock is stuck at 12, whilst the opposite side shows the correct time. I was particularly attracted to this viewpoint by all the leading lines pointing to the clock and then the clock hands pointing straight up.
