The Aiguille du Midi (3,842 m / 12,605 ft) is a mountain in the Mont Blanc massif. It can can be directly accessed by cable car from Chamonix. It receives half a million visits a year.

....the rain continued. The track was muddy....(.....) was from Switzerland, born in Rome, suffering from rain, mud and the rest of it. He had walked for hours and we were both heading to Chaumont. At least another 6 hours away... We met again. In Chaumont... and some weeks later near Espalion. We had dinner together in Conques. He had reached Santiago - and sent me a postcard.
