Happy Bench Monday!
A moment at the Martinez waterfront near the Carquinez Straits. Northern California. On a warm but windy Saturday. Although we don’t see them, a few families were flying kites. One soon occupied the semi circular cement bench seen here and enjoyed a picnic lunch.

The bridge opened for business in 1936. Read more here about the bridges and the Golden Gate Int'l Exposition which built Treasure Island and celebrated the construction of the bridges.

On one hand, it's a lovely idea to think of the airport located in the bay halfway between the two cities. On the other hand--looking at what development has wrought--just imagine the traffic congestion on the bridges!, not to mention runway length and noise!
