Looking toward Yerba Buena island in the Bay b/n San Francisco and Oakland. The new Eastern Span of the Bay Bridge is seen to the left. Bit of the Berkeley marina to the right.
because it reminds me of one--a very rustic bridge in the Pisgah National Forest, Big Ivy section.

on the historic Eads Bridge (1874), looking back toward the Gateway Arch. It's a great experience to do this! How wonderful that a pedestrian-way still exists, in good condition, across an historic bridge of this importance. Look it up on Wikipedia--you'll be surprised, as I was.

I was on foot in the middle of the 1874 Eads Bridge (a well maintained pedestrian way exists)--this is a great thing to do in St. Louis! If they charged, people would be lined up for the privilege! As it is, it's free, and I was alone.

the French Broad River at Marshall, NC. This beautiful river flows north out of the southeast (on the western side of the peaks) and into the Tennessee/Ohio confluence. Finally, it arrives at the Mississippi and the Gulf of Mexico. (Hence its name, the "French" Broad, as opposed to the English Broad that flows into the Atlantic). When I visited the Mississippi, I enjoyed knowing that the water I saw there had originated in a mountain spring near my home in western NC!
