Taken on the Guadalupe River Delta Christmas Bird Count in the northwest part of the Womack Ranch. The owners of this private ranch generously let us find birds on it every year for the CBC. They usually take me on a flat-bottom boat up and down part of the Guadalupe River, but water levels were too low this year. So I was fortunate to be able to bird by foot with Mark Elwonger in his usual area.

On my way to the Womack Ranch, I stopped at the picnic area just south of Tivoli to take a quick photo of the pre-dawn glow. This is looking across part of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.
