Concrete steps lead visitors to Salvatore Verdirome's Sanctuary of Love from one level of his back-yard shrine to the next. On some steps, Verdirome carved messages in the concrete. Other steps, like this one, are decorated with religious mosaics.

The way I understand it, when the city took over the property because of unpaid taxes, they auctioned off the statues. It looks like the two that remain were not sold because they are mounted in concrete.
