Alternate title: Solenoid City. This panel hung on a kitchen wall. Wires snaked through the walls, a pair to just about all of the rooms, so that people could summon staff at the push of a button, causing the bell we see above the panel to ring. Which room? The room of the person ringing would be displayed on the panel's cover, which is hanging diagonally below the panel. This bell-ringing system is an indication that the farm made the transition from working farm to gentleman's farm quite a while ago.

There's a good chance that the broken ridge board is an effect, not a cause. Taken en-masse, this structure consists of four separate components, with this one being the newest. It was built and used as a "great room" that connected the building in the background with a similar but smaller building to my rear. A failure in back of me at the junction of the two roofs let water weaken the attachment. At some point what was probably a sag in back of me got severe enough to give way, perhaps in the winter under the weight of snow.
