I shared a photo a week or so ago of the climb on the Succession Trail at Indiana Dunes National Park. The climb down was almost as many steps as the 270 up to the top of the dune and lookout. This is what greeted me as I began my descent. This wide angle perspective is almost dizzying as I looked down from the top. It wasn't really as bad as it looks.

A few weeks ago, I drove up to the Indiana Dunes National Park as I had never been there and wanted to get a bit of exercise and take some photos. Little did I know that the park runs some 15 miles along the shore of Lake Michigan. I guess I should have done a little research before I jumped in the car. I followed the signs to the park and found the entrance closest to Gary, Indiana and was told by the ranger at the gate I should take the Dune Succession Trail by climbing the steps near the parking lot up one of the dunes and I would see a nice view of downtown Chicago a number of miles across the lake. It was 93 degrees when I stepped out of the car that afternoon and 270 steps up this dune, before arriving at an overlook and then descending back down and ultimately hiking out to the beach at Lake Michigan. I guess I am really thankful that I am fit enough to climb these steps on this trail despite the heat. This is a photo of the trail and steps up to the top. My advice would be to take this trail on a cooler day!

I decided to join in the viewing of the Union Pacific Steam Engine’s Heartland of America Tour as it passed through central Illinois this evening. I was 4 or 5 miles south of St. Joseph, IL for these photos. The amount of interest in this huge steam engine here has amazed me. All for about 15 seconds of viewing as it passes by. For those of you not familiar with this steam engine, here is a Union Pacific web page describing the 4014 which was delivered in 1941 and completely restored in a multi-year effort culminating in 2019.

I thought it only proper to capture a nice black and white of the old Farmall F-12 tractor and the 1916 barn and silo at the Buckley Homestead near Lowell Indiana. These Farmalls were built in Chicago between 1932 and 1938.
