Photo fishers (like me) stake out this quiet spot on the Merced River in Yosemite to wait for the right moment to catch El Capitan in its sunset glory. Sometimes the best way to look up is by looking down. Anyway even if the photos dont appear you have received a gift from winter's wonders.
Winter is the least busy and possibly most beautiful season in Yosemite. The crowds go home, frost coats the trees in the morning, fog freezes, waterfalls start flowing only to freeze at night, and snowstorms coat the park in a white blanket. Its quiet and full of white, blue and frosty hues that are simply devine to see. It felt like a nice day to reshow this quiet place of bliss.

Been getting down in the low thirties in southern California a deep freeze for us.My neighbors brought back a ice chest full of snow from the mountains an hours drive from the beach. This little man is only two feet tall but full of character. He's got his sunlotion on and you can't see the sandals he's sporting. Even snowmen and women like the beaches in San Diego, He may not last long in our 40 degree weather but he's got his mojo on and is ready to catch some waves and have a California holiday party.

Best seen Large. I rarely get to the Sierras in winter but its great when i do. Im not a skier so I strappon some snow shows and went merrily troping up by the superlative Convict Lake. I was happy when the skier zipped by to put some perspective in this.
Taken a few winters back and it always reminds me that the Mammoth Lakes region of California is great to visit in any season.

Taken In Kansas City, Mo. long ago. It had snowed about a foot that day. I got tired of shoveling and put on my long johns and took a fine quiet walk through the city midtown past the localy famous Brush Creek Parkway, a lovely urban space anytime of year.
