She Is My Special Snow Angel....
The snow fell like millions of tiny feathers from the white colorless sky above, carried upon some invisible breeze; drifting this way and that as they fell towards earth...
Karen and I ventured out and spent a few hours walking in the fresh fallen snow, stopping occasionally to look and listen... marveling at the sound of the flakes hitting our jackets.
Karen decided to make snow angels . I was happy to watch and take photos of her having such a good time in the snow.

A Silver Grey Morning....
Monday was a typical November day with no sun and cool temperatures, the lake was calm and still, the air was brisk with a crisp fall chill, the daylight was diffused by the thick heavy cloud cover.
Karen and I ventured out and spent a few hours hiking the trails of Heart Lake. stopping occasionally to look and listen... marveling at the quiet stillness... it is at these times of solitude when away from the stresses of life, that one finds peace for the soul it brings one to a calm retrospective place where you can forget about everything; if even for a moment..

Bronzed Oak Leaves....
The Oak tree in my backyard is a constant source of amazement for us. we planted it when we moved here in 1994, it was barely four foot high; a sapling no thicker than my thumb.
to stop it from getting blown down by the wind we tied it to the fence.... now it is forty five feet tall and the trunk is at least twenty inches around.
It holds its leaves till spring and no matter what winter throws at it, those leaves do not fall to the ground until the new shoots push them off.
In the autumn the leaves turn bright orange and then turn a burnt umber / bronze colour. with all the rain we have had lately they look especially nice.

A Light In The Forest...
after a long hike deep in the forest we wandered upon this spot where the light was making its way through the dense canopy; illuminating the wooden walkway ahead of us. it was a welcome sight after a long hike as we know that was the way back to the car and eventually would lead us home. .

White Birch..
.
Saturday was an incredibly wet and rainy day. Karen and I undeterred by the weather ventured out onto the wet and mucky trials of Heart Lake Conservation Area.
The trees were so soaked with rain that it made the trunks and branches extremely dark, This solitary white paper birch really stood out from the yellow and gold foliage of the background.
