Hello all!!! We got home today at 1 PM after flying from Los Angeles on a midnight flight, arriving in JFK New York at 8 AM and then on to Halifax. I sorted the laundry, got some groceries and cooked a lovely supper with my son and his wife, then downloaded my 2 GB card after moving lots of stuff to my backup hard drive. Now I am am fighting to stay awake...thought I would have some energy to make some visits with you all, but I guess that wil wait till the morning.. I am so tired I even forget what this flower is called...I think it is hibiscus...I am jealous that they are in full bloom in my sister's yard, and we still have snow in our yard! Tomorrow I have to make room to download my 8GB card! On Explore @ 418 March 21, up to #262, then #83 March 23

The weather was sunny and perfect for the week we were in California. This little male had a mate nearby and there were lots more like them singing their hearts out all day long in my sister's backyard. I don't think we have them here in Nova Scotia so an ID would be great. (we also don't have roofing tiles like that so I was enamored with the architecture too)

Thanks folks for the house finch ID..we have finches in Nova Scotia but they are longer and leaner...(wonder why?) Common Redpoll variety (thanks Maureen for the link)

Joshua Tree National Park was gorgeous in its own special way...so barren and dry with cacti and the great Joshua trees (yucca) in the northwestern part which is the Mojave desert habitat above 3000 feet. along with the Mojave yuccas are prickly pear cacti, blackbush, nolina, pinyon pines, junipers, and scrub oaks. Joshua trees can grow over 40 feet high, at about an inch a year. See the rock climbers: View On Black On explore @ 391 March 26
