Federal agencies, private sector partners, and non-profit organizations coordinate support received from the American public for newly-arrived Afghan guests of Operation Allies Welcome at Camp Atterbury, Ind., Dec. 2 2021. This initiative provides essential support at secure locations outside of Afghanistan. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities in permanent or temporary structures as quickly as possible. Rear Adm. Bruce L. Gillingham, Navy Surgeon General, and Navy Medicine's Force Master Chief Michael Roberts visited the grounds of Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) located at Fort Pickett, Virginia, Oct. 26. Naval Medical Center Personnel (NMCP) were recognized by receiving a coin from Gillingham, and Lt. Cmdr. Kyle McDonald, Branch Health Clinic Oceana physician, was one of the awardees. An NMCP medical team is currently deployed there in support of OAW. As the U.S. Navy's oldest, continuously-operating military hospital since 1830, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth proudly serves past and present military members and their families. The nationally-acclaimed, state-of-the-art medical center, along with the area's 10 branch health and TRICARE Prime Clinics, provide care for the Hampton Roads area. Fort Pickett, Va. (Jan. 11, 2022) Cmdr. Mohenish Daughtry, Expeditionary Medical Facility–M, assigned to Task Force Pickett, from Sacramento, California conducts a medical screening of a 23rd Marine Regiment Marine during sick call at the Troop Medical Clinic. Daughtry is the lead of sick call at Task Force Pickett. She and her team are primary medical support for all active duty military here and she has been aboard just over two months.
