British Railways Standard 4 4-6-0 75048 is in steam outside the northern end of the shed building. By this time the few remaining Standard 4s were retained to work on the Grassington branch.

I have already posted a tightly cropped version of this negative back in 2008 but here is the full frame. I had cut out the lighting pole earlier but on closer inspection I notice a few things of interest (to me at least). There is a firing shovel on the ground and the metal rod leaning against the pole is the removable lever for rocking the grate and opening the hopper doors for engines fitting with these labour-saving devices. Near the shed exit lines on the far left is a water crane and a semaphore bracket signal on the main line.
