ELR No. 1 stands in Bury Bolton Street station before departure with the 11:00 service to Ramsbottom, which is as far as the railway went until 1991. 2/8/87. This was my first visit to the ELR, a week after it re-opened. Little did I know then how many times I would visit subsequently!

RSH Tank, ELR No.1 crosses Brooksbottom Viaduct with an early afternoon train from Bury to Ramsbottom on the 2nd August 1987. The railway had only been open for a week at this point and this view of the viaduct at Summerseat was still relatively uncluttered by trees. It wasn't to last for long though! This tank engine and an Austerity were the mainstays of the service for several months until ex-BR locos started arriving for prolonged visits.

75078 & 76079 approach Brooksbottom Tunnel, after leaving Summerseat station with the 12:00 from Bury on the 26th January 1991. 75078 was one of the first locos to visit the ELR from another steam railway, and is of course part of the KWVR’s stable.
