This general view of the NRM was taken on one of my earliest, if not the earliest, visit in 1981. This was well before the roof was replaced and the loco collection had been thinned out. You'd be lucky to get so many locos on view today. One of the two engines nearest the camera is LSWR T3 Class No. 563, now at the Swanage Railway undergoing restoration, which left the collection in 2017. The other nearest loco is GNR C1 Class Atlantic, 251, which is now in the new museum at Doncaster, where the loco was built. By the way, 4771 "Green Arrow", which is visible at the far side of the turntable, was steamable at the time.

925 "Cheltenham" is seen in the main hall of the National Railway Museum on the 7th October 1981. The last time I saw the engine it was in the Peter Allen Building, but it is now at Mid Hants Railway and until recently, at least, it was in steamable condition.

NER Class M1 4-4-0, 1621, in the main hall of the NRM on the 16th September 1982. Apparently it's now at Shildon. It was preserved in the late 1940s and was one of the locos exhibited in the original, much smaller, railway museum at York.

55002 "Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry" stands in the NRM. 16th September 1982. Although the Deltic has been seen out and about - both on the main line and preserved railways in the years since 1982, apparently the NRM have decided it is going to be a static exhibit henceforward.
