Thurne Dyke Drainage Mill on the Norfolk Broads. 21st September 2024. Seen from our electric hire boat during our most enjoyable two-hour cruise along the waterway. The drainage mills of the Broads are a unique survival. Collectively they are the largest concentration of wind powered pumps in the United Kingdom and as a group they are surpassed only by those of the Netherlands. They were originally used to drain the surrounding land - a role that has now been taken over by computer-controlled sluices and electric pumps.

St Mary's, Wiveton is another very large North Norfolk church, again built with wool trade money in the middle ages, largely due to a bequest by one John Hakon who left 200 marks, about £30,000 in today's money, towards the "makynge of a newe churche".

An unusually shaped house on the banks of the River Thurne on the Norfolk Broads. Seen during a trip on a hired electric boat on the 21st September 2024. This is the only house that we saw along the banks of the river that was as unique as this, but believe me, there were lots of bijou residences. A great place to live, except perhaps in winter when the wind is blowing across the flat landscape direct from Siberia!

This view near Wroxham is not untypical of the area, with fantastic properties lining the waterside. However, what is not typical is the motor launch moored outside this one. "Radjhani" is a 40ft Bates Starcraft built in 1962 and has been restored at the cost of several hundred thousand pounds.
