If you draw a line directly west from where this photo was taken, you will get to Canada. Avoiding the northern tip of Coll and the southern tip of Mingulay, the line would land somewhere on the central coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Now that’s a place I’d really like to see.

One of my most important rules when photographing landscapes is always to look behind you. So many times, the composition I have chosen is either equalled or bettered by the one behind me. The light on the water and rocks here was one of those times.

A strong wind from the west on the most westerly point of the Scottish mainland. A perfect set of conditions for seascape photography. It’s been years since I was on Ardnamurchan. It’s great to be back.
